Amalfi Coast Transport

The Amalfi Coast is easly reached thanks to its proximity to the cities like Naples (airport) and Salerno (train station) and thanks to highways that quickly connect to the rest of Italy.

There isn’t railway service on the Amalfi Coast. You can use the public Sita Buses, boats, ferry or private rental car.

The Amalfi Coast is served by a single road, which largely runs through cuts in the living rock. It follows the line of the coast, passing through a number of towns in succession, sometimes at sea level and sometimes at elevations of up to 200 meters. AMALFI COAST LOCAL TRANSPORT

Buses

Public buses, named SITA or UNICO COSTIERA, are cheap and fairly efficient.
The main bus terminal is Amalfi, in the middle of the Amalfi Coast, where all the buses arrive and depart from here, connecting with Positano, Sorrento, Ravello, Salerno, Naples. Other small buses provide transport within the towns.

VERY IMPORTNT - you need to purchase the ticket before getting on the bus ( in some bars, tabacchi shops etc. ) and clipped into the machine next to the driver as you boarding, otherwise you will be fined. Also make a clear signal that you want to catch the bus as they do not always automatically stop at all the stops.
When checking the timetable, you should be aware of the days on which busses runs : Feriale means working days Monday to Saturdays, Festivo means Sunday and public holidays.

UNICO COSTIERA is the new ticket for tourists that allows to travel all around the Amalfi and Sorrento Coasts. The 24 Hours / 3 Days tickets are valid for unlimited number of trips on SITA Buses in the following villages: Amalfi, Atrani, Agerola, Cetara, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Maiori, Massa Lubrense, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Salerno, Scala, Sorrento, Sant'Agata.

Ferry

Ferries and Hydrofoils operate daily (summer seasons only) a long the Amalfi Coast connecting the villages of Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, Naples, Capri Island and Ischia Island. The tickets can be purchased at the ticket box office situated a long the docks of the above villages.

From Naples airport

There is also Curreri Bus to Sorrento; in Sorrento change for SITA Bus services to the Amalfi Coast.

By car
The motorway A3 to Castellamare di Stabia, following the sign to Sorrento Coast & Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana). The access to the Amalfi Coast can be via different ways or Sorrento, or Agerola, or Vietri sul Mare. Agerola is the shortes way.
